HOLIDAY TRADITION: THREE HOLIDAYS IN ONE
As a child, I always looked forward to spending the holiday at my grandparents’ home in Urbana, Illinois. Being from a multi-cultured family, holiday time at my grandparents’ home was nontraditional yet completely awesome. My Jewish Grandfather celebrates Hanukkah while my grandmother embraces her African American culture by celebrating Kwanzaa, and my mother enjoys her traditional Christmas. I was a happy camper around this time of year, to say the least. In my eyes, this was a kid’s dream come true! Not only was it amazing to experience the different cultural celebrations, but I was ecstatic to look forward to enjoying three different holidays back to back.
